The Olden Lab is moving to the University of British Columbia

Summer 2027

Yep, you read correctly!

I will be joining the University of British Columbia as the Eddie Goldenberg Research Chair of Canada in Freshwater Ecosystem Sustainability, holding a joint appointment in the Department of Forest and Conservation Sciences (my physical office) and the Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries. I’m heading back home to Canada!

A new website will launch next year, but in the meantime I’ll be using this page to assist with recruiting new students and post-docs to join me at UBC starting in Fall 2027 and beyond.

All interested students should direct their interest to my UBC email: julian.olden@ubc.ca. Do not email my UW address. Thank you.

Graduate and Postdoc Opportunities!

I am accepting new graduate students and post-docs starting in Fall 2027 to join me in the Department of Forest and Conservation Sciences at the University of British Columbia!

Thank you for considering the Olden Research Lab for your graduate studies at the University of British Columbia. We are always on the lookout for sharp, motivated, hard-working students with a passion for the conservation of fresh waters and their inhabitants. Hopefully you've had a chance to peruse our research interests and read a few of our recent publications. From this, you'll notice that our work focuses on conserving freshwater organisms, communities, and ecosystems in the face of environmental change. Not interested in saving the world from humanity's unquenchable thirst? No worries — we just want your help. The truth is, there's a wide range of projects to work on. By applying to join our lab, you'll become part of a dynamic group of graduate students and postdocs working together as a cohesive unit. Quite simply, we play hard and work even harder!
