Having grown up in the Great Lakes region, I am passionate about freshwater ecology and conservation. My research interests include community ecology and how humans and introduced species disrupt community dynamics in freshwater systems and how we can mitigate their negative effects. Before joining the Olden lab, I studied invasive wetland plants at the University of Michigan and worked with USGS to help coordinate management efforts of invasive Phragmites throughout the Great Lakes region. Currently, I am examining the ecosystem impacts of an invasive red swamp crayfish removal effort in Pine Lake, WA. Additionally, I will combine stable isotope and stomach content data to create quantitative food webs and use network analyses to quantify community responses to shoreline development in the Puget Sound lowlands. Through my research I hope to increase understanding of how freshwater communities respond to the inevitable increase of anthropogenic disturbances as the human population continues to expand.
